A university campus should feel open and welcoming, but it also needs to be safe. At the University of Gloucestershire’s Centre for Art and Photography, we were asked to help with both.

The centre is easy to spot. A huge, colourful eye mural covers the front of the building and gives the whole site its character. Our job was to add proper security around it without taking anything away from that.

We installed dark green steel palisade fencing along the boundary, with matching gates at the access points. The pointed tops make it a strong deterrent, and the green finish sits neatly against the building and the paving rather than dominating it. It looks smart from the street, and it does exactly what it should.

The result is a site with clear boundaries and controlled access. Students and staff know who is coming and going, and the equipment and studio space inside is better protected. For students, that means getting on with their work and feeling at ease on campus. For parents, it is reassuring to see a university taking safety seriously.

Palisade is tough, low maintenance and copes well with all weather, so it will keep doing its job for years. Our own trained teams carried out the work, and as an ISO accredited company we take safe working around staff and students seriously.

We have been installing fencing and gates for over 30 years, for schools, colleges, councils and businesses across Gloucestershire. If you are looking at securing your site, get in touch with the team at Greenfields for a friendly chat.
