Our landscaping team is partway through a major garden project at Esmere Gardens in Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire. The site is a little messy at the moment, as every good transformation is, but the plan is coming together and we wanted to share what is happening.
The brief
Esmere Gardens asked us to create a cohesive, high quality outdoor space across the front and main garden areas, somewhere residents, families and staff can enjoy being outside. The plan covers drainage, lawns, hedging, planting and a few special features, all designed to be safe and easy to get around.
What is happening on site
- Drainage and the pond area: we are excavating the existing sustainable drainage pond, removing built up silt and installing new attenuation crates so the site handles heavy rain better. The original railings are being kept as a feature boundary.
- A new lawn: the old turf and topsoil have been stripped, the ground is being regraded and fresh topsoil laid, ready for around 525 square metres of premium turf.
- Boundary screening: about 90 metres of beech hedging is going in along the rear boundary, with resin bound pathways to make it easy to walk the full length of the garden.
- A formal garden with a bowling green: a dedicated area to the side of the main lawn, with landscaped seating areas around it.
- Growing space: two raised vegetable beds and a greenhouse, set on a firm, low maintenance gravel surround for safe, easy access.
- Front of site: existing planting by the car park is being cleared and replanted with fresh bark mulch, five new trees are being planted, and the borders by the main garden are being renewed.
Why we love a project like this
A garden can make a real difference to daily life in a care setting. Fresh air, something green to look at, a place to sit with family or have a go at growing tomatoes all matter. As a family run business, we like knowing our work will be used and enjoyed by the people who live and work there.
We will share more photos as the project progresses, and a full case study once it is finished. If you are planning a garden or grounds project for a care home, school or other community setting, we would love to hear about it.
