We're absolutely delighted to share that work has officially begun at Ronkswood Hub in Worcester, marking the start of an exciting and meaningful project that we're incredibly proud to be delivering.
Greenfields has been appointed by Worcester City Council to transform the Ronkswood Hub play area as part of a £331,000 investment across three community play spaces in the city, a fantastic commitment to the children and families of Worcester that will see Ronkswood, Horizon Hub and Medway Road all transformed this summer.
A playground designed for everyone
At the heart of our work at Ronkswood is a genuine commitment to inclusive, imaginative play. The redesigned space will feature two distinct zones; a junior area for children aged 3–14 and a toddler area for children aged 1 and above, with capacity for over 130 users at any one time.
The Make Space for Girls initiative runs through the heart of the junior design, championing play spaces that are genuinely welcoming and engaging for all children. New features include a social swing accommodating up to six users, an inclusive net hammock, somersault bars, scalable hexagonal climbing structures and stepping posts, all designed to encourage social interaction, confidence and physical development.
The toddler area is equally thoughtfully designed, with a play castle, stage with a storytelling area, sensory mirror panels and a chalkboard; sparking imagination from the very youngest age.
Alongside the play equipment, bespoke carved features will give the space a real sense of character, and picture communication boards will be installed to support non-verbal children and adults, a detail that speaks volumes about the inclusive vision behind this project.
Giving back to the local environment
As part of our work on this project, Greenfields will also be carrying out tree planting in the local area, something that reflects our wider commitment to the communities and environments we work in.
Shaped by the community
What makes this project particularly special is that the designs have been shaped by extensive resident consultation - ensuring the new spaces reflect the real needs and priorities of local families. Funded through planning-related developer contributions, this investment is a strong example of what can be achieved when a council listens to its community and acts on what it hears.
Worcester City Council's commitment to delivering high-quality, accessible play facilities across the city is something we wholeheartedly support, and we're honoured to be the team bringing that vision to life at Ronkswood.
Work is underway, watch this space!
Ground has been broken and our team is on site. We'll be sharing regular updates on progress as the project develops, including interviews with Worcester City Council, members of the Greenfields team and local residents about what this kind of investment means to the community.
Key phases are planned for completion in time for the school summer holidays, so it won't be long before the children of Ronkswood get to enjoy their fantastic new play space.
