Landscaping and planting at Upton's Garden, Whitminster

Upton's Garden sits on the edge of Whitminster, a Gloucestershire village with its own primary school, shop and playing fields. It is a small development of 11 four and five bedroom zero carbon homes, and it was a pleasure to be asked by Newland Homes to help it settle into the village.

We are a family run business, and this is the kind of job we enjoy most. Gardens are the first thing people see when they arrive home, and we like to think about the families who will be living with our work for years to come.

What we did at Upton's Garden

Our landscaping team worked right across the site. We laid turf in the rear gardens, planted the borders and finished the front gardens in line with the development masterplan. Every bed was edged by hand and mulched with bark, which keeps things looking tidy and helps new plants get established.

We chose planting that looks good through the seasons. There are evergreen shrubs for shape all year, hardy geraniums for summer colour, pyracantha trained along the fencing for berries in autumn, and big leafed foliage plants to soften the boundaries. At the front doors, standard trees and clipped shrubs give each home a warm welcome. We also planted young trees on the green areas and by the show home, which will grow with the village for years.

Making a new street feel like home

A new build garden should feel ready to enjoy the day someone gets their keys. Well prepared turf, crisp edges and planting that suits the site mean new neighbours can step outside and start making it their own, with birds and pollinators soon following the shrubs and trees in.
