News Flash……

After increasing use of electronic enquiries Greenfields now have a Large Plotter Printer which enables large scale drawings to be printed off in-house. Greenfields’ soft landscape specialist Chris Woolham says “it’s best thing since sliced bread”.

Meanwhile the grass cutting season is in full swing with men and mowers flat out.

Tim Mann (Fencing Supervisor) has recently completed his SMSTS training and is now Greenfields Health and Safety coordinator liaising between our H&S consultants and our department managers.

Birds & Birds Nest

 Birds & Birds Nest

Bird Nesting Season Is From Early March To Late July.

Legal Definition & Protection

A wild bird is defined as ‘any bird of a kind which is resident in or a visitor to great Britain in a wild state’. All birds, their nests and eggs, are protected by law and it is therefore an offence, with certain exemptions, to:

  • Intentionally kill, injure or take any wild bird.
  • Intentionally take, damage or destroy the nest of any wild bird whilst it is in use or being built.
  • Have in one’s possession or control any wild bird, dead or alive, or any part of a wild bird, which has been taken in contravention of the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981 or the Protection of Birds Act 1954.
  • Have in one’s possession or control any egg or part of an egg which has been taken in contravention of the Act.
  • Intentionally (or recklessly, in England & Wales only (CRoW 2000)) disturb any wild bird listed on Schedule 1 while it is nest building, or at (or near) a nest containing eggs or young, or disturb the dependant young of such birds.

It is an offence under section 1 of the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981 to intentionally:

Take, damage or destroy the nest of any wild bird while it is in use of being built. It will be an intentional act if, for example contractors continue to reduce or remove a hedgerow, tree or shrub, after they have been told that birds are nesting there. The discovery of a nest during the  process of work will also prohibit further cutting work within an area or buffer zone around the nest.

Forthcoming Contract

Starting on Monday 22 February 2010 we are installing a new play area at Coney Hill Clock Tower for Gloucester City Council.  The equipment is mainly Kompan with one record unit as well as ancillary bike racks, dog bins and seating.

Safety surface to be grass mats and hopeful completion within 10 days.

Highnam Parish Council. New Play Area Update.

Snow, rain and frost has slowed down progress at Highnam Gloucester.  The guys are up against the weather but as the client stated in a recent email they are made of tough stuff and are making headway.  The scheme has a value of circa £45,000 and consists predominantly of Kompan play equipment with loose rubber safety surfacing.  There is also an element of natural play utilising boulders, logs and a large soil mound with crawl runner.

One off Custom Built Fort

We have just completed a custom made timber fort to provide fun and interactive play to the children who use the Hop, Skip and Jump centre near Cheltenham.

The unit features look out slits, climb wall, slide and firemans pole and is intended for multi age usage.

In addition to the fort our team has built a 3m x 3m raised deck off the top bank with overhead camouflage net to stimulate a bird hide.

Natural Boulder Play

Schools are increasingly looking to challenge children with natural play boulders to supplement the usual generic play equipment. The boulder (pictured) weighs approx 4 tons and is 1200mm high. It has an easy route up to the top and a more challenging face.

The grass provides ample safety surfacing and keeps the whole zone looking as natural as possible allowing the grass to in time grow through them.

The Greenfields staffs are all ROSPA trained and specialise in play area design, installation and maintenance.
